Pierre Boulez Saal to open in 2017, offering up to 100 diverse chamber music performances each year

In March 2017, the Pierre Boulez Saal opens in Berlin and will offer a musically diverse program that combines outstanding works of traditional chamber music from the 19th and 20th centuries and today, with unique compositions from the Middle East, as well as guest appearances by some of the world’s finest musicians.

Designed by architect Frank Gehry with acoustical design by Yasuhisa Toyota, the chamber music hall features two elliptical formations set one above the other to create an impression of weightlessness from the tier.

The Pierre Boulez Saal is the public face of the Barenboim-Said Akademie, housed in the former storage building of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. The Akademie offers a bachelor’s degree to students from all over the Middle East, who receive exemplary instruction in music alongside study in the humanities.
