This August, Daniel Barenboim leads the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra on tour throughout Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, presenting two different programs across four cities. The first concert series will feature Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 15 and the Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73 by Johannes Brahms. Originally set to take the soloist’s role, Martha Argerich unfortunately had to withdraw due to health reasons. In her place, Igor Levit will be performing the solo part in Ludwig van Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto. These performances will be the first opportunity to hear the Igor Levit with Maestro Barenboim and the Divan Orchestra.
Following the Waldbühne performance, two special concerts will be held on August 26 and 27. Part of the Barenboim-Said Akademie’s 2023 Edward W. Said Days, these concerts will present Mozart’s last three symphonies at Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal.
