Daniel Barenboim – who was recently awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz (Federal Cross of Merit) by President Joachim Gauck – returns to the German capital this month for a series of concerts with the Staatskapelle Berlin and a collaborative recital of German lieder with soprano Dorothea Röschmann. Barenboim first leads the Staatskapelle in two concerts that feature Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben and see the Maestro both playing and conducting Mozart’s Piano Concerto in B-flat, K. 595. You can hear this program on February 11 at the Philharmonie Berlin and February 12 at the Konzerthaus Berlin.
On February 13, tenor Plácido Domingo guests with Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin in a concert version of the Third Act from Wagner’s final opera Parsifal. The Philharmonie Berlin performance also includes baritone Wolfgang Koch, bass Kwangchul Youn, and the Staatsopernchor.
On February 17, Barenboim returns to the recital stage with the German soprano Dorothea Röschmann. Together, they present Schumann’s Liederkreis and Frauenliebe und –leben and Wolf’s Vier Mignon-Gesänge at the Schiller Theater Berlin.
