As 2020 came to a close, Daniel Barenboim participated in numerous celebrations of Beethoven’s 250th Birthday.
In a four-part video series from Deutsche Grammophon, Daniel Barenboim discusses Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas with pianist and conductor Giuseppe Mentuccia. Available on YouTube, audiences can access this conversation on Daniel Barenboim’s channel for free. Future episodes will return in February 2021, featuring a new co-host, actor Christoph Waltz. Barenboim also led the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in the Beethoven Jubilee concert from the Bonn Opera featuring Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto and Fifth Symphony. Moderated by violinist Daniel Hope, the concert remains available to stream on WDR Klassik’s YouTube until February 16. Watch here.
In continuing the celebration of Beethoven’s 250th year, Daniel Barenboim has also released two new albums featuring the music of the great master. Joining violinist Michael Barenboim and cellist Kian Soltani, Daniel Barenboim released a new recording of the Beethoven Piano Trios on Deutsche Grammophon. In an album titled “Beethoven,” Barenboim performs Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 8 in G major with flutist Emmanuel Pahud in a new arrangement of the sonata for flute and piano. Also on the album is Beethoven’s Trio for Piano, Flute, and Bassoon, featuring Barenboim, Pahud, and bassoonist Sophie Dervaux.
