Barenboim conducts Lulu at Staatsoper Berlin

From March 31 to April 14, Daniel Barenboim leads performances of Alban Berg’s Lulu as part of the Staatsoper Berlin’s FESTTAGE 2012. Following the acclaimed production of Wozzeck by Andrea Breth, the German director returns to the Staatsoper with a new staging of Berg’s operatic masterpiece with sets by Erich Wonder and costumes by Moidele Bickel.

Berg’s radical yet sumptuous score depicts the world of the iconic femme fatale Lulu, whose seemingly endless sexual charm takes her from love to love and finally to a murderous end. To realize the opera, Barenboim leads a stellar cast that includes Mojca Erdmann, Deborah Polaski, Anna Lapkovskaja, Michael Volle, Georg Nigl, Stephan Rügamer, Johann Werner Prein, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, Thomas Piffka, and Jürgen Linn, among others.
