Beginning this week at the Pierre Boulez Saal, Daniel Barenboim begins a two-season journey through the full cycle of Beethoven’s piano sonatas, with an impressive program that includes the exuberant Sonata No. 1 and Sonata No. 18, as well as the titanic Sonata 29: “Hammerklavier.
Barenboim performs the program again on January 6 at the Philharmonie de Paris, and continues the project with a second recital at the Philharmonie on January 8, performing Sonata No. 8: “Pathétique,” Sonata No. 12: “Marche funèbre,” Sonata No. 25, and Sonata No. 28.
Next Barenboim brings the project to Switzerland, performing recitals on January 12 (Victoria Hall, Geneva), January 14 (Music Hall, Basel), and January 15 (Tonhalle Zurich). The recitals include Sonata No. 13: “Quasi una fantasia,” Sonata No. 7, Sonata No. 27, and Sonata No. 21: “Waldstein.”
