On February 28, Daniel Barenboim performs at Pierre Boulez Saal in a celebration of Frank Gehry’s 90th birthday. The program includes two works by Pierre Boulez, Anthèmes 2 and sur Incises, as well as Robert Schumann’s Andante & Variations for 2 pianos, 2 cellos & horn in B flat major.
A friend of both Daniel Barenboim and Pierre Boulez, American architect Frank Gehry incorporated Barenboim’s artistic sensibilities into the design of Pierre Boulez Saal, building a unique, non-traditional concert hall. Although Gehry was initially skeptical of his early concepts, Barenboim’s enthusiasm encouraged Gehry to pursue these exceptional designs. Reflecting on the experience, Gehry notes, “Artists sometimes recognize other artists in ways that we don’t really understand.”
