Barenboim & Staatskapelle with Berlin orchestras to give free concert for refugees & aid volunteers

Music Director Daniel Barenboim leads the Staatskapelle Berlin in a free concert for refugees and aid volunteers, teaming with two Berlin orchestras – the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under the baton of Ivan Fischer and the Berliner Philharmoniker led by Simon Rattle – at the Berliner Philharmonie on March 1, 2016.

Barenboim will lead Mozart’s Piano Concerto in d minor, KV 466 from the keyboard, Fischer conducts Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1, “Classical” and Rattle performs the second and fourth movements from Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony.

“Music is an international language which can reach and touch people everywhere,” the conductors stated. “With our joint concert, we want to show a sign of welcome to the families who have fled and a sign of thanks and recognition to the volunteers.”

The concert will be broadcast live via the Staatsoper Berlin’s website and on the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Digital Concert Hall.
