Daniel Barenboim will inaugurate the Teatro alla Scala’s 2014/15 season on December 7, leading a new production of Beethoven’s Fidelio. The staging by Deborah Warner stars Peter Mattei as Don Fernando, Falk Struckmann as Don Pizarro, Klaus Florian Voigt as Florestan, Anja Kampe as Leonore, Kwangchul Youn as Rocco, Mojca Erdmann as Marzelline, and Florian Hoffmann as Jaquino. Barenboim conducts Fidelio at the Teatro alla Scala from December 7 to 23. The performances are part of the “Milan: Heart of Europe” program, which coincides with this semester’s Italian Presidency of the European Union.
