Co-founder Barenboim leads Divan Orchestra on European Tour

Co-founder Daniel Barenboim embarks on a four-city, six-concert tour of Europe leading the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra with guest soloist Martha Argerich this August.

The tour launches at the Salzburger Festspiele on 10 August, with Barenboim conducting the orchestra in an all-Mozart program. On 11 August at the Salzburger Festspiele, Barenboim and the Divan perform Jörg Widmann’s Con brio; Wagner’s Tannhäuser Overture, Dawn and Siegfried’s Rhine Journey, Siegfried’s Funeral March and Die Meister Singer Overture; and – with pianist Martha Argerich – Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-Flat Major.

Barenboim and the Divan return to the Waldbühne Berlin on 13 August, presenting Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Argerich plus orchestral selections of Wagner.

Returning to the Lucerne Festival, the orchestra performs its all-Mozart program on 14 August and Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Argerich alongside the music of Widmann and Wagner on 15 August. They appear at the BBC Proms on 17 August.

Wrapping their tour of Europe, Barenboim and the Divan Orchestra return to Seville to perform at the Teatro de la Maestranza on 18 August.
