Kaufmann and Röschmann kick off Staatsoper’s 2011-12 Barenboim Cycle

This season’s Barenboim Cycle examines the piano and vocal works Franz Liszt and Franz Schubert in five concerts, all featuring Barenboim at the piano. The series kicks off on October 7 with an evening of music by Franz Liszt at the Schiller Theater, the Staatsoper’s temporary home. For this program, Barenboim is joined by tenor Jonas Kauffmann, stepping in for bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff, and soprano Dorothea Röschmann in a sampling of works by the legendary Hungarian composer and piano virtuoso.  The second performance in the Barenboim Cycle, on October 15, focuses on solo piano works by Schubert.
