Staatskapelle Berlin’s 2013–14 Season Opens September 15 & 16

Following a summer of performances that included a complete cycle of Wagner’s Ring at the BBC Proms with the Staatskapelle Berlin and a European tour with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Daniel Barenboim looks ahead to a new season at the Staatsoper Berlin, where he has served as Music Director since 1992.

The pianist and conductor inaugurates the 2013-14 season leading the Staatskapelle and Rundfunkchor Berlin in two opening concerts at the Philharmonie Berlin (September 15) and Konzerthaus Berlin (September 16). The program opens with Lutoslawski’s Mi-parti and also includes Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the esteemed Argentinian pianist Martha Argerich. Verdi’s Quattro Pezzi Sacri with guest soprano Evelin Novak completes the two sold-out concerts.
