Staatsoper Berlin Festtage 2014

Music Director Daniel Barenboim gives eight performances—ranging from the operatic to concert events—as part of the Staatsoper Berlin’s Festtage 2014 April 11 to 20. This year’s festival opens with Barenboim leading the Wiener Philharmoniker at the Philharmonie in a program of Mozart symphonies. The following day, Barenboim conducts a new production of Wagner’s Tannhäuser, directed and choreographed by Sasha Waltz and starring René Pape, Peter Seiffert, Peter Mattei, Marina Prudenskaya, and Ann Petersen. Tannhäuser will be presented on April 12, 16, 20 and 27. On April 13 and 17, Barenboim leads Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, starring Plácido Domingo, Maria Agresta, Dmitry Belosselskiy, and Fabio Sartori in a production by Federico Tiezzi.

Then on April 18, Barenboim conducts the Staatskapelle Berlin at the Philharmonie Berlin in Mozart’s Maurerische Trauermusik, Max Reger’s Requiem—with guest soloist Plácido Domingo—and Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben. The following evening at the Philharmonie, Barenboim and fellow Argentinian pianist Martha Argerich present a duo piano recital. The program comprises Mozart’s Sonata in D Major KV 448 for two pianos, Schubert’s Variations on an original theme D813, and Stravinsky’s Le sacre du printemps for four-hand piano.
