This March, Barenboim conducts the Berlin Philharmonic for three performances of Verdi’s Requiem on March 11, 12, and 13. The concerts feature soloists Susanne Bernhard (soprano), Anita Rachvelishvili (mezzo-soprano), Fabio Sartori (tenor), and René Pape (bass). The March 12 performance will be available online through the Berlin Philharmonic Digital Concert Hall.
In April, Daniel Barenboim conducts the Mozart/Da Ponte operas at Staatsoper unter den Linden, beginning with the premiere of Vincent Huguet’s production of Don Giovanni (April 2, 10, 17, & 20). Barenboim then leads performances of Cosí fan tutte (April 7 & 14) and Le Nozze di Figaro (April 9 & 16). Barenboim also conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in a program of Mozart Symphonies at the opera house on April 6.
In mid-April, Barenboim joins Martha Argerich for a program of Mozart and Bruckner with the Staatskapelle Berlin (April 13), followed by a recital with mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli featuring works by Haydn, Schubert, Rossini, and Bellini (April 15).
In May, Barenboim embarks on a European tour with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, performing Smetana’s “Má vlast.” The tour includes Paris (May 5), Milan (May 6), Munich (May 8), Brussels (May 9), Luxembourg (May 10), and Prague (May 12 & 13).
Barenboim closes out the spring in Berlin, leading a program of Debussy, Stravinsky, and the world premiere of Benjamin Attahir’s Layal for violin and orchestra with the Staatskapelle Berlin (May 30 & 31).
