On December 7, Teatro alla Scala Music Director Daniel Barenboim opens the Milan house’s 2012-2013 season with a new production of Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin. This new staging by Claus Guth boasts a stellar cast that includes Jonas Kaufmann in the title role, René Pape as Heinrich, Anja Harteros as Elsa, Tomás Tómasson as Friedrich, Evelyn Herlutzius as Ortrud, and Zeljko Lucic as the King’s Herald. 2013 marks Wagner’s bicentenary, and this season at La Scala, Barenboim will also conduct Götterdämmerung in May and June and two complete Ring Cycle performances in June as well.
