West-Eastern Divan Orchestra summer workshop & tour

This summer, Daniel Barenboim and the musicians of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra will come together for their annual summer workshop in Spain and their 2013 European tour, giving 12 concerts in ten cities across Spain, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. The 2013 tour will see the world premiere performances of compositions by Saed Haddad and Chaya Czernowin, and will also mark the bicentennials of Verdi and Wagner with programs that include preludes and overtures by the two opera composers.

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra’s tour culminates August 25 at the Waldbühne Berlin with a program of music by Verdi and Wagner as well as Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. Prior to their open-air concert in the German capital, Barenboim and the Divan Orchestra give performances in Seville at the Teatro Central (August 8) and Teatro de la Maestranza (August 9), in Granada at the Palacio de Carlos V – La Alhambra (August 10), in La Roque-d’Anthéron at the Parc du Château de Florans (August 12), in Marseille at the Opéra de Marseille (August 13), in Basel at the Stadtkasino (August 15), in Lucerne at the Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern (August 18 & 19), in Wiesbaden at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden (August 20), in Stuttgart at the Kongresszentrum Liederhalle (August 22), and in Salzburg at the Grosses Festspielhaus (August 24).
