Wozzeck opens in Berlin with Barenboim conducting critically acclaimed revival

Daniel Barenboim leads the Berlin Staatsoper in three performances of Alban Berg’s 20th century masterpiece, Wozzeck, beginning on October 26 at the Schiller Theater. The production by Andrea Breth, which debuted in April 2011 to rave reviews, receives encore performances on October 28 and 30. Much of the cast from last season’s debut performances returns for this revival, including German soprano Nadja Michaels as Marie and baritone Georg Nigl in the title role.  Barenboim also leads Adrea Breth’s second production in the 2011-12 season, Berg’s Lulu starring soprano Mojca Erdmann, this spring.
