Music Director Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin embark on a four-city, five-concert tour of Europe this April. Pianist Martha Argerich joins Barenboim and the Staatskapelle at London’s Royal Festival Hall on April 20, 2015 for the first of two concerts in the British capital. The program comprises Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto and Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben. The following day on April 21, violinist Lisa Batiashvili guests with the orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, which is complemented on the program by Elgar’s Second Symphony.
On April 23, Barenboim and the Staatskapelle appear at the recently opened Philharmonie de Paris, where they perform works by Wagner and Pierre Boulez, along with Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto with Argerich as soloist.
From Paris, the musicians head to Basel, where the orchestra performs Schubert’s Seventh Symphony, "Unfinished," and Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben on April 24.
Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin round out their European tour on April 25 in Munich with Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto, featuring Argerich, and Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben.
