On June 1 Daniel Barenboim will conduct Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Orchestra e Coro del Teatro alla Scala in the presence of Pope Benedict XVI. The Pope is known for his fondness of music, and this performance will be the first concert that the pontiff has attended at a public theater in his capacity as leader of the Catholic Church. The concert is part of the Holy Father’s visit for the World Encounter of Families, which engages with issues relating to the family.
