Next week, Daniel Barenboim kicks off the fall season with performances at the Berlin State Opera and Pierre Boulez Saal.
Beginning on August 31, Barenboim leads the Staatskapelle Berlin in a performance of Beethoven’s Symphonies 1 & 2. The Staatskapelle performs the full cycle of Beethoven’s Symphonies, continuing on September 2, 3, 4. The cycle concludes on September 6, with a performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, performed open-air as part of Staatsoper für Alle. This event also features Beethoven’s “Egmont” Overture and Romances for Violin No. 1 and 2 with soloists Anne-Sophie Mutter, Julia Kleiter, Waltruad Meier, Andreas Schager, and René Pape. Barenboim also returns to Pierre Boulez Saal on September 1, performing a program of Mozart, Schubert, Widmann, and Berg with the Boulez Ensemble.
On September 11, Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin perform in celebration of the Orchestra’s 450th anniversary, presenting a program of Mendelssohn, Strauss, Boulez, and Beethoven.
Barenboim closes out September with two performances with the Staatskapelle Berlin on September 26 and 27. Soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter joins for a program featuring Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major as well as music by Debussy and Boulez.
