BARENBOIM BEGINS SEASON-LONG CELEBRATION OF WAGNER’S BICENTENNIAL WITH PERFORMANCES AT STAATSOPER BERLIN, TEATRO ALLA SCALA

This October, Daniel Barenboim will conduct Wagner’s Die Walküre and Siegfried at the Staatsoper Berlin, kicking off a season-long celebration of the master opera composer’s bicentennary at the German house. On October 3, 6, and 10, Barenboim leads the debut performances of Guy Cassier’s production of Siegfried. On October 4, 7, and 14, the maestro performs Die Walküre with the ensemble in another Cassier production. In March 2013, Barenboim and the Staatsoper Berlin will present the complete Ring Cycle as part of Festtage 2013.

From October 23 to November 18, the maestro leads performances of Siegfried at the Teatro alla Scala. This season in Milan, the La Scala Music Director will conduct Lohengrin in December, Götterdämmerung in May and June, and two complete Ring Cycle performances in June as well.
