This summer, co-founder Daniel Barenboim leads the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in its annual workshops and concerts at Buenos Aires’s Teatro Colón.
The orchestra’s residency kicks off on July 24 with an all-Mozart program, reprised on July 26. On July 25 & 27, Barenboim conducts the ensemble in works by Widmann, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. The Divan celebrates the 100th birth anniversaries of Alberto Ginastera and Horacio Salgán on July 29 & 30.
As part of the Teatro Colón residency, Daniel Barenboim takes the stage with legendary pianist Martha Argerich for a duo piano recital on July 31.
Barenboim and the Divan are joined by Argerich for Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 on August 4 & 5 in a program also featuring Widmann’s Con brio and a selection of operatic overtures by Wagner. The residency comes to a close on August 6 as Barenboim and the Divan present arias from Wagner’s Die Walküre, Parsifal and Lohengrin with tenor Jonas Kaufmann.
Following their Teatro Colón residency, Barenboim and the Divan travel to Europe for a four-city, six-concert tour.
