This December at the Teatro alla Scala, Daniel Barenboim will perform Piano Sonatas by Franz Schubert across four recitals, December 3, 12, 15, and 22. For the pianist/conductor, who recently recorded a complete cycle of the works for the Deutsche Grammophon label, the sonatas are a wonder. Playing through them “turned out to be an intense and fascinating voyage into these microcosms of harmonic sophistication.” The recitals follow Barenboim’s 2008 performances of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas at the iconic Milan house.
