This March sees the international release of Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin’s latest album, a live recording at the Philharmonie Berlin of Bruckner’s 7th Symphony. Barenboim’s latest disc captures a gripping performance of Bruckner’s 7th, bringing an insightful, theatrical interpretation of epic grandeur to one of the greatest late-Romantic symphonies.
This performance also commemorates Daniel Barenboim’s week-long Bruckner cycle with the Staatskapelle in June 2010. In fact, the concert featured on this recording drew 13 minutes of uninterrupted applause from the exhilarated audience. Inspired by the performance, Der Tagesspiegel marveled at how "[Barenboim’s] Bruckner is conceived and performed very theatrically, like an opera without words."
The release of this recording coincides with Barenboim and the Berlin Staatskapelle’s forthcoming tour, which includes performances of Bruckner’s 7th Symphony in Berlin (April 5), London (April 16) and Paris (April 18), as well as a cycle of the complete Bruckner symphonies at the Musikverein in Vienna in June.
