After Daniel Barenboim completes his run of Don Giovanni at La Scala – his first as Music Director of the house – he heralds the New Year with two performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Staatskappelle Berlin on December 31, 2011 and January 1, 2012. Barenboim then tours with the Staatskappelle as conductor and piano soloist. They perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 26, “Coronation,” and Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony, “Romantic,” in Munich on January 16 and in Cologne on January 17. In Madrid, they present Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony on January 19 and Bruckner’s Third Symphony on January 20. They give the final concerts of their tour in Barcelona on January 21 and in Geneva on January 22, performing Bruckner’s Third Symphony and Mozart’s “Coronation” concerto.
