Next Wednesday, in his new role as Music Director of Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, Daniel Barenboim leads the house’s orchestra, chorus, and an all-star cast in a new production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. This new staging by modernist Canadian director Robert Carsen boasts an extraordinary ensemble of singers, with Swedish baritone Peter Mattei in the title role, Russian soprano Anna Netrebko in her La Scala debut as Donna Anna, Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel as Leporello, and Italian soprano Barbara Frittoli as Donna Elvira. This landmark performance will be broadcast LIVE from Milan to movie theatres around the world on December 7 as part of Emerging Pictures’ “Opera in Cinemas” series, with encore performances throughout the month.
