World Premiere of Jörg Widmann’s Labyrinth IV at Pierre Boulez Saal

On June 19 and 22, Daniel Barenboim leads the Boulez Ensemble in the world premiere performances of Jörg Widmann’s Labyrinth IV, a piece commissioned by the Daniel Barenboim Foundation.

The June 19 performance is part of a larger program, Europe: Myth and Vision. This evening celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Social Science Center by highlighting the question of European identity. Centered around the premiere of Widmann’s work, the event will also include non-musical contributions which explore the question of what Europe can and must be for its citizens.

The June 22 performance concludes the 2018/2019 season at Pierre Boulez Saal, with Daniel Barenboim leading the Boulez Ensemble in Widmann’s Labyrinth IV, Boulez’s Messagesquisse, and Beethoven’s Septet in E flat major (opus 20).
