Beginning November 29, Daniel Barenboim conducts Verdi’s Il trovatore at the Staatsoper im Schiller Theater. The production, directed by German filmmaker Philipp Stölzl, sees Plácido Domingo as Conte di Luna, Anna Netrebko as Leonora, Marina Prudenskaya as Azucena, Adrian Sâmpetrean as Ferrando, Anna Lapkovskaja as Inez, and Florian Hoffmann as Ruiz. Daniel Barenboim’s performances of Il trovatore in Berlin run through December 22.
This month Daniel Barenboim will lead the Staatskapelle Berlin in the German capital’s premiere performances of Jörg Widmann’s Teufel Amor at the city’s Philharmonie (November 11) and Konzerthaus (November 17). Violinist Guy Braunstein guests with Barenboim and the Staatskapelle for these concerts in Mendeslssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor. This month at the Staatsoper im Schiller Theater, Daniel Barenboim leads two exceptional dance performances featuring the choreography of Sasha Waltz on 26 October and 2 November. The program comprises Ms. Waltz’s choreography to the Scène d’amour from Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette as well as Stravinsky’s ballet Le sacre du printemps. The performances will also see the world premiere of Ms. Waltz’s choreography to Debussy’s L’après-midi d’un faune.
